Originally from Savannah, Ga., Dr. Georgina Agyekum has modeled a life of setting and accomplishing goals and is passionate about helping singles walk in their God-given purpose. As Director of the Singles Ministry, she and her team strive to teach singles that while marriage is a beautiful institution, it should not be one’s ultimate goal in life.
Dr. Agyekum holds a doctorate in public health from the University of California - Los Angeles; a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina; and a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University. She has lived in six states – as well as abroad – and loves to explore new places.
After spending years working in the public health sector, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. She launched a unique handbag line, SOLSAK @ GALLERY PLACE, featuring handbags designed with a special pocket for carrying heels or flats separate from the contents of the bag. The line has been featured nationally in the Huffington PostStyle and on several fashion blogs throughout the country.
Dr. Agyekum is an active member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden and her community, and can be found on any given day strategizing, serving, socializing and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.
Dolores Alexander was born in Gordonsville, Va., on Aug. 21, 1932. She earned her degree at St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Va. After 36 years of teaching, she retired from the D.C. school system in 1986.
Sister Alexander has been a member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden for many years. She was honored to be given permission to be the first director of the Drama and Dance ministries. She presently is an active member of several church ministries to include Agape, Seniors on the Go, Senior Wednesday, Cancer Support, Inspirational Choir, Women’s Fellowship and the weekly exercise for seniors.
Sister Alexander is also the founder and CEO of “Dee’s This and That.” Her specialty is making a variety of things out of recycled jeans.
In her free time she loves to travel, dance, entertain, shop and dress.
Josephine (Joi) Arnold was born in Durham, N.C., where she accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord of her life at the age of 13. A first generation college graduate, she made her home in the Washington Metropolitan Area after graduating from Howard University Law School.
In 2004, Arnold became a member of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden where she served briefly as a Sunday school teacher. She currently serves as a facilitator in the Divine Discipleship for Sisters Ministry. In her professional life as an attorney, writer and a teacher, Arnold has taught a wide variety of audiences from second graders in Sunday school to attorneys and judges in Cairo, Egypt.
Her passion is spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to deliver, heal and empower women and their families for successful living and service in the Kingdom of God. She also serves as a hostess in the Armor Bearer’s Ministry along with her husband and college sweetheart, Kenneth. Together, they have one son and three daughters.
Audree L. Ashe
Audree L. Ashe is founder and CEO of Victorious Christian Women Ministries, a powerful training ministry based in Harrisburg, Pa., dedicated to faithfully spreading the Gospel and helping Christians live in accordance with it. She also serves as director of Women’s Ministry at DaySpring Ministries in Middletown, Pa., where she has worked diligently beside her husband, Dr. Clifford Ashe III.
Audree’s deep insights and solid suggestions for daily living create a desire in the hearts of men and women to develop their full potential in Christ. She is a certified biblical counselor and inductive Bible instructor, and the former publisher of the national magazine, Excellence, The Lifestyle for Victorious Christian Women. Her teaching boldly inspires, prepares and transforms men and women with truths and strategies for living victoriously.
She is much sought out as a conference, seminar and workshop speaker. She has been married for 49 years to her high school sweetheart and is the proud of mother of two children, five grandchildren and two great grands.
Sherry Blue is a native of Norfolk, Va., where she studied Administrative Systems Management at Norfolk State University and has worked in this field for over 30 years.
In 1989, she and her family moved to Panama Canal, Panama where she worked at the Naval Station Panama Canal. After returning to the United States, Ms. Blue worked at her alma mater NSU for 10 years, before returning to the federal government in Washington, DC in 2003.
Sherry received the Lord as her personal Savior in 1989 and became a member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden in 2004. In 2007, she married Clary “Michael” Blue, who 2 years after marriage, God called him home to be with the Lord, leaving Sherry a widow and with many questions of “why”?
She serves with the Divine Discipleship for Sisters Ministry, a 2008 graduate of the discipleship ministry and has served in several capacities before her current position as the director.
Sherry is the mother of 3 adult children; a son-in-law and the grandmother of 3 boys. Sherry has a passion to empower, mentor and inspire women and love to see the transformation of the ladies after they have been remade through their Divine Discipleship for Sisters experience. Currently, Sherry resides in Laurel, Md.
Dr. Jeronda T. Burley
Dr. Burley gave her life to the Lord in 1992 and is a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden since 2007. Since joining the church, she became trained as an altar counselor and serves alongside her husband as a senior partner in the Prosperity Partners Ministry and in the Couples Ministry. They were also faithfully involved with the Couples ministry.
Prior to joining FBCG, Dr. Burley served 10 years as a member of the Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church in Washington, D.C., where she was licensed to minister the gospel in 2003. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, both from Auburn University.
Dr. Burley is routinely invited to present her research at local, national and international social work conferences. She has several scholarly publications and over a decade of experience pursing her research interests within community-based organizations and the faith community.
Most importantly, Dr. Burley is the proud wife of Ernest Burley Jr. and mother of Naomi Miracle Brielle and Ernest Burley III.
Johnesia Canady, affectionately known as “Necie,” is a native Washingtonian. She is a graduate of from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Md., and the Fashion Design School in Pittsburg, Pa.
Johnesia is a strategic visionary gifted in the area of creativity. Her talents are most commonly demonstrated through her illustrious teaching style, as well as in many of the women’s events at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden.
Johnesia has worked in the area of events management and travel coordinator for 17 years and has served faithfully at FBCG for 13 years. She has a passion for empowering women and has been working in women’s ministry for the last decade.
In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending quality time with sister-friends, and helping and mentoring women where she encourages them to embrace their stories so that they can encourage other women.
Tanyai Cato was born to Bishop Clifford and Leading Lady Dorothy Johnson in Baltimore City of Baltimore, Md. She was saved at the age of 12 under her father’s ministry and attended Washington Bible College.
She was determined to study the Scriptures for one year only to focus on pursuing her dream of being an executive secretary, however, it was during this time that God called her to the ministry of teaching. With this calling, Tanyai graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and has taught for the past 35 years.
Currently, Tanyai is in full-time ministry with her parents serving as event coordinator and director of the Women’s Ministry for Mount Pleasant Church and Ministries. Most importantly, Tanyai is the proud mother of five treasures, Charles Jr., Jessica, Jeremy, Joy and Jordyn.
Valencia Daniel works for the Department of Homeland Security, leading its Data Management efforts for the Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer (OCHCO). She was recently chosen as an OCHCO lead representative for their employee engagement efforts, where she facilitates focus groups, provides motivational speeches and leadership training as a collateral duty.
A mother to five awesome adults and five beautiful grandchildren, Valencia spends much of her time at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, working with the Divine Discipleship for Sisters Ministry as a seasoned facilitator of 10 years. Valencia’s background also includes 5 years of service as a youth advisor at FBCG.
Tylunda Greene is a native of Charlotte, N.C. Early on she had a love for reading and writing, which lead her to study English at Bowie State University. After Bowie State, she received numerous certifications in the field of Information Technology.
In 1993, she joined First Baptist Church of Glenarden, where she served as a youth advisor for R.E.B.E.L.S 4Life and a Queen Esther facilitator. She is currently employed by FBCG as a project manager in the Events Marketing Department.
She describes her live as a mosaic piece created by God. Her life are fragments that individually reflect brokeness, but when put together it displays the beauty of God’s power.
Tylunda is dedicated to young adults and has “adopted” many of them into her life as her very own. She is determined to get the message out to women at-large that they are special and so loved by God. When she is not working or being a taxi driver, Tylunda loves to read and write.
Tylunda has been married to Richard T. Greene Sr. for 23 years and together they have and five children: Richard Jr., Whitney, Taylor, Mikayla and Gabrielle, along with two grandchildren, Jayce and Jayla.
Thelma McLeod Hagood
Thelma has a passion for developing people spiritually and professionally. She embodies the vision statement of FBCG by personally seeking to develop dynamic disciples for Christ, strengthening marriages and living a consistent lifestyle of holiness.
Throughout the years at FBCG, Thelma has been active in several ministries which include Pastor’s Aid, Dorcas, Women’s and Evangelism. She is a graduate of the Sisters in Discipleship (SID) Ministry and currently serves as a SID Facilitator. She is a member of the Couples Ministry where she and her husband serve as Advisors & Married Mentors. In addition, they serve as instructors in the Marriage Institute. Quarterly, she instructs the Thursday night New Members Classes for those connecting to FBCG.
In September 2006, Mrs. Hagood was consecrated to the office of Deaconess. She humbly serves as a Titus II Woman of God to many in the body of Christ. She is grateful to God for anointing her with the spiritual gifts of organization, administration and the ministry gift of teaching. She is committed to using her gifts to honor and glorify God!
She is married to Giles W. Hagood Jr. and is the stepmother of two daughters, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Hagood currently reside in Columbia, Md.
Since the age of five, Jada has yearned to be a hair stylist. With her undeniable charm, magnetic personality and attention to detail, Jada strives to make each and every client experience unforgettable! For over 10 years, Jada has been devoted to her craft.
Jada is a well-known and sought after stylist that has been featured locally and internationally in Black Hair Sophisticates Magazine, Hair N’ Motion, Hair’s How Magazine, Styling Books and Passion Magazines. Jada has also had the opportunity to serve as a celebrity stylist to numerous VIP clients, such as Kym Whitley, Robert Griffin III and Kim Burrell. Her work has also been extended to many platforms such as the New York Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Los Angles Fashion Week and the BET Music Awards.
Jada preaches to her clients that a healthy, good-looking head of hair is the evidence of a strong, confident person who appreciates themselves and others. Jada truly believes that quality hair care is a key factor of a good self-esteem. She is certain that her destiny is to bring the inner beauty to the outer surface through the quality care of ones’ hair.
Minister Allison Johnson
Allison accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior when she was 13 and rededicated her life at 22. She married Reverend Terence L. Johnson one year later and has co-labored with him in ministry for the past 33 years.
Johnson has a call on her life to preach and teach the Word of God, so in December 2004, she received a Master of Arts in Religion at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Ill.
During her time at Trinity, as part of a yearlong Field Study requirement, Johnson studied and worked in the ministry of post-abortion healing. In 2016, she furthered her post-abortion studies at the Center for Ethics and Culture at the University of Notre Dame’s Vita Institute. Under the First Baptist Church of Glenarden’s Women’s Ministry, she is the director for the Beauty for Ashes –a post-abortion healing ministry.
She currently resides in Waldorf, Md. with her husband, Reverend Terence L. Johnson, and has five beautiful God-children, all under the age of 6.
In 1986, Carmen Jones’ life changed forever, while studying at Hampton University. Carmen and a group of friends were involved in a car accident during the Thanksgiving break, resulting her to become severely injured, and paralyzed from the waist down.
As a young woman who stood 5’10”, she was unable to fully comprehend what life would be like in a wheelchair. Broken and without hope, Carmen was not sure what to do, where to turn, or how to respond. All she knew to do was to ask God to help her and that He did.
Carmen went on to graduate from Hampton University, get married, become a mother and use her entrepreneurial skills to found a successful nationally-recognized business. One of her greatest accomplishments was to be able to serve in the Obama Administration.
However, in 2001, Carmen’s life took another unexpected turn and she gave birth to Marcus – a child with significant disabilities. During his first year, it was a day-to-day experience of wondering if he would live and over the course of his life, he underwent more than 20 surgeries. While Carmen’s life has been presented with significant challenges, God has provided grace, enduring faith, hope, love and resilience.
Reverend Kay Drake-Jones is a woman of God with an uncompromising faith who strives to inspire others to want to know, love and live for Christ. She works tirelessly to help others develop a closer relationship with the Lord and align their lives with the Word through the application of biblical principles.
Though she’s from Cleveland, Ohio, Reverend Kay has spent the majority of her adult life in the Washington, D.C area. Before moving to the area, she and her family of five spent 10 years in South Carolina, as she worked as a national non-profit administrator with a focus on information dissemination and member services.
She has earned her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Ohio University, along with a Master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry from Erskine Theological Seminary. An experienced preacher and teacher, Reverend Kay was ordained in the African Methodist Church where she served the Lord alongside her husband, Dr. Joseph E. Jones Sr., who pastored many churches during their time in South Carolina.
In 2014, Reverend Kay and her husband, who is now the Chief Oper ating Officer here at FBCG, have been pouring into this place ofworship. They have both committed themselves wholeheartedly to supporting the mission and vision that we have in place. She currently serves as a facilitator for The Alpha Course, as an Altar Counselor, is a staff member of Grace Magazine and is involved with the new Blended and Blessed Couples Support Ministry. She is the mother of three adult children and grandmother of three.
Jessica Medina is faithful woman who uses her life and testimony to serve God and her community.
As a member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden, she serves in both the Singles and the Domestic Violence ministries. She also mentors young ladies to help them grow into impactful women for God’s Kingdom.
Her work for redemption and recovery does not stop there. Jessica dedicates her time to a D.C. based non-profit organization, which provides support services for young female victims of human trafficking.
She also serves as the Prevention Education Coordinator for Prince George’s County where she facilitates classes for middle and high school students. Her goal is to educate young men and women about human trafficking and the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships.
As a domestic violence survivor, she plans to use her testimony to write a book that will help others transform their identities from victims to victors!
Angelia Gordon Neal has a passion for empowering others to achieve their God- ordained purpose in life. Angelia, a native of Louisiana, has over 15 years of experience in human resources, leadership development and strategic planning and consulting.
Angelia earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., a Master of Science degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Co., and later earned a Leadership Coaching Certification from George Mason University.
She is an active member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden. From 2009 to 2015, Angelia served as coordinator of the Women's Ministry Events Team. In addition to serving at FBCG, she is also actively involved in several community and professional organizations. Angelia and her high school sweetheart, Arthur, have been married for 15 years.
Lenia Queen is the co-owner of New Mindz, LLC, Queen Essentialz and Virtuous Image – a personalized fitness/nutrition company specializing in Total Temple Transformation™ (mind, body and spirit). Lenia has a calling on her life to minister to blended families, married couples, young women and girls.
Lenia is also a certified human resource professional with an Associate’s Degree in Human Resource Management. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Wellness.
Being a member of FBCG since 2014, Lenia serves as the Director of MERGE M.A.D. (Making A Difference) – the outreach component; volunteer coordinator for R.E.B.E.L.S. 4Life Youth Bible Study; serves as an altar counselor; and is a member of multiple ministries.
Lenia Queen is the devoted wife of Reverend Jonathan Z. Queen and together they live in Upper Marlboro, MD. The couple are the proud parents of six beautiful children, three grandchildren and a Shih Tzu named Seven.
Michelle Singletary is a nationally syndicated personal finance columnist for The Washington Post and the author of three books, The 21 Day Financial Fast: Your Path to Financial Peace and Free, Spend Well, Live Rich: How to Live Well With the Money You Have and Your Money and Your Man: How You and Prince Charming Can Spend Well and Live Rich.
She is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park and Johns Hopkins University, where she earned a Master's degree in business and management.
Singletary is the director of Prosperity Partners Ministry at First Baptist Church of Glenarden. Through this ministry, she teaches on various financial topics every month to men and women, who handle their money well, or others who are having financial challenges. She and her husband also volunteer to teach financial literacy to prison inmates.
First Lady Paula Staton
A woman who wears numerous hats, Paula L. Staton is a wife, a mom, an entrepreneur, a mentor and an educator in Prince George’s County Public Schools. She is the dedicated wife of the Billy T. Staton Jr., Senior Pastor of the Providence Saint John Baptist located in Upper Marlboro, Md. They are the proud parents of one son, Benjamin T. Staton. Most of all, First Lady Paula loves God and she gets no greater joy than helping people accept and receive the overwhelming love that God has for them.
First Lady Paula accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in 1992. Shortly thereafter in 1995, she began serving in the youth ministry at First Baptist Church of Glenarden, where she met her husband, the absolute love of her life. Serving in the youth ministry helped her discover her love for young people, which is evident in her classroom, as she pours into each student as if they were her own.
Over the years, First Lady Paula has been yielding faithfully to God’s unique purpose for her life. As she began serving with her husband in ministry, God has given her a passion for helping other women find their purpose in life and to walk in the fullness of what God has called them to do. She serves as the director of Women’s Ministry and the Department Head of the Family Ministries at Providence Saint John Baptist Church. She continues to yield to the call and the purpose that God has for her and is grateful that He chooses to use her.
Gwendolyn Goodwin Wade, affectionately known as Gwen, is a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden. She currently serves as a certified altar counselor, a Sunday school teacher and the Chaplin of the Singles Ministry. Earlier on, she was biblically educated, accepted Christ and entered into holy matrimony at Enon Baptist Church in Washington D.C., under the late Pastor Emeritus Arthur N. Shinglar.
She is a native Washingtonian who currently resides in Hyattsville, Md. She has been currently employed by Dominion Virginia Power for the past 30 years in various positions and is happy to say that she still loves going to work every day.
